When your practice is closed
Most dental practices close at 5 or 6pm and many are shut at weekends. Pain, swelling or a broken tooth often gets worse in the evening, exactly when it's hardest to get help.
With ToothAid you book a video slot and speak to a dentist directly. They'll tell you what is likely causing the problem, what will help tonight, whether you need a prescription, and how soon you need to be seen in a chair.
Common out-of-hours problems: toothache, abscesses, wisdom tooth pain and toothache at night.

Can I see a dentist out of hours?
Yes. ToothAid dentists offer video consultations outside normal practice hours, including evenings and weekends. Available times are shown when you book, and you only pay for a slot you can actually take.
How much does an out of hours dentist cost?
A ToothAid video consultation is £19.99 at any time, with no out-of-hours surcharge. If you then need to be seen in person, a participating practice charges a fixed £39.99 for the assessment, the same at weekends.
Can an out of hours dentist prescribe antibiotics?
Where it is clinically appropriate, yes. The prescription is sent electronically and you can collect it from a UK pharmacy. Antibiotics don't fix most toothache, so your dentist will also explain what treatment you need.
What about NHS 111 out of hours?
NHS 111 can direct you to urgent NHS dental care, but waits can be long and slots limited. ToothAid is a private alternative where you speak to a dentist directly.
When should I go to A&E instead?
Call 999 or go to A&E if you have swelling spreading towards your eye or neck, difficulty breathing, swallowing or opening your mouth, uncontrolled bleeding or a serious facial injury.
