Dental problems rarely arrive at a convenient time. The first question is always urgency: swelling that affects your face, eye or throat, difficulty breathing or swallowing, or uncontrolled bleeding needs emergency care straight away — call 999 or attend A&E.
Most other problems, including severe toothache, a lost filling or a chipped tooth, can be assessed remotely. A video consultation lets a GDC-registered dentist look at the area, review your symptoms and history, and agree the right next step with you.
In the meantime, keep the area clean, use pain relief that is safe for you as directed, and avoid extremes of temperature. Do not place aspirin directly against the gum.
If you need hands-on treatment, ToothAid can refer you to a participating dental practice near you, who will propose an appointment time for you to accept.
